Catching Up

Richmond Skyline from Church Hill

(to start of project)

Cicadas are synonymous with Southern summers, the air and light simmer with a pulsing, tinny buzz. This morning, at dawn, bagpipes joined the metallic chorus. Played badly, I might add. It’s Fourth of July weekend, and the Scottsville Parade does pre-promenade staging on the road in front of the house. Hay wagons, antique tractors, fire engines, politicians, Shriners in go-carts . . . not much good for sleeping in, but gets me out of bed early.

I have a rare four day weekend underway. Had a good uninterrupted 12 hours of work yesterday and, if all goes well, another three coming up like it. Things are happening fast now.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in many ways, in good ways. Visited a great launch site, reconnected with an old boating buddy in Richmond I hadn’t seen in 20 years, the Batteaux Fest floated through town, a mountain brewery birthday dinner, local farms, horse shows, etc.. Been happening so fast I can’t keep up. And boat building progress during it all. For now, a few pictures will have to do.
